The 2025 Subaru WRX is powered by a turbocharged 271-horsepower 4-cylinder engine matched with a 6-speed manual transmission with all-wheel drive. A CVT automatic transmission with paddle shifters is optional if you must. Unique in its class, the WRX’s flat engine design comes with the benefits of a lower center of gravity for better handling, smooth operation, and quick throttle response. It makes for a driving experience that’s pleasurable at any speed, whether it’s the daily commute or a curvy back road.
The small footprint and well-tuned suspension system further contribute to the pleasurable drive this Subaru delivers. Comfort improves greatly with the electronic adaptive dampers in the tS and GT models. We had fun taking tight corners fast when testing the WRX; it’s the kind of car that feels like it wants the driver to push it to its limit. The braking also feels satisfactory, partially thanks to this compact&#8217;s modest curb weight.
As for the transmissions, some rivals (Honda Civic Si, Volkswagen Jetta GLI) have more engaging and precise manual transmissions than the WRX. But if you’re a connoisseur of fine transmissions, you’re probably getting the Honda, anyway. If you’re not picky and just want a fast, fun car with an old-fashioned stick shift, you’ll be perfectly satisfied with the WRX.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
Good fuel economy is supposed to be one of the advantages of a sport compact compared to a perfromance car with a bigger engine. However, the Subaru WRX only manages 22 mpg combined with the manual transmission and 21 mpg with the automatic. Also, premium fuel is recommended, yielding surprisingly high fuel costs for a compact sedan with a 4-cylinder engine, sporty as it may be. The Civic Si requests premium gas, too, but it gets 31 combined mpg.

Surprisingly Subtle Exterior

For better or worse, the current iteration of the Subaru WRX doesn’t have the ostentatious, boy-racer aesthetic of earlier generations. It does have a gaping hood scoop, quad exhaust tips, and sporty wheel designs, but gone is the charmingly ridiculous rear wing of the old STI models. If you want to drive a sporty compact sedan and look like a grown-up, this relative subtlety is a good thing.

Stick shift 
Yes, the automatic is quicker, but we never fell out of love with the manual transmission, especially in a sport compact like this. We love to see it standard in the WRX.
All-wheel drive 
The Subaru WRX was a performance car with all-wheel drive long before it was trendy. Harkening to its roots as a rally car, the WRX’s all-wheel-drive system with active torque vectoring gives it better grip on dry pavement and the practical benefit of all-season traction.
tS trim

If you want the full sports car treatment, the WRX tS delivers. It even includes uber-supportive Recaro front seats in the upper trims. However, at its core, the WRX is a sedan, seating up to five. Easy to live with, the instrumentation and controls are sensibly placed. The seats are comfortable, and there is plenty of elbow room. Its rear seats provide 36.5 inches of legroom. This falls neatly between the VW Golf GTI and the Hyundai Elantra N.
We put the WRX through its paces as a family car — with car seats and everything — and found it to be just as practical as any other compact sedan. The tidy 12.5 cubic feet of cargo space isn’t as much as any of our named rivals, but we found it practical enough for typical everyday errands.

Every 2025 Subaru WRX is powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 271 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. A CVT automatic is mandatory on the comfort-oriented GT trim and optional on all other trims.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Subaru protects the WRX with a bumper-to-bumper limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. A 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty is also standard. This is about typical for new cars from mainstream manufacturers.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>) awarded the Subaru WRX its highest 5-star overall safety rating. The independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) has awarded the Subaru WRX a Top Safety Pick award. Subaru includes EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as standard regardless of transmission. This bundle of advanced safety tech includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane centering.

What's new for

The TR trim introduced to the WRX lineup last year is already gone and replaced by the sportier and pricier <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2025-subaru-wrx-ts-pairs-stick-with-sporty-suspension/">tS</a> [sic] trim. The tS stands for “Tuned by STI,” Subaru’s performance division. Compared to last year’s TR performance trim, the tS gets even better Brembo brakes, blue interior accents, a digital gauge cluster, and electronically controlled dampers with four modes: Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Individual. This high-tech suspension system used to be exclusive to the GT trim, which comes exclusively with an automatic transmission. The introduction of the tS trim means you can now get a WRX with the really good suspension and a stick shift.
Also, the WRX&#8217;s eponymous base trim <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2025-subaru-wrx-drops-base-model-now-starts-at-36920/">has been discontinued</a>, driving up the starting price. The new base trim is the WRX Premium.

The 2025 Maserati GranTurismo and all-electric GranTurismo Folgore coupes are luxurious grand tourers with lashings of style.

In Modena trim, the Maserati GranTurismo produces a perfectly energetic 483 hp from its turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. It will sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. That’s fast in anyone’s book. And the 542-hp Trofeo version shaves nearly half a second from that time. Then again, a BMW M8 Competition Coupe has 617 hp and does the dash in three seconds flat, while the Porsche 911 Turbo packs 576 hp and can claim a time of 2.7 seconds.
A standard adaptive suspension allows the GranTurismo to transform from a comfortable cruiser to a precise corner carver. All-wheel drive (also standard) enhances traction.
Maserati says the 751-hp (or 818-hp, in boost mode) GranTurismo Folgore can hit 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. Lightning, indeed.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
If this matters, the Modena and Trofeo models are more frugal with premium gasoline than the BMW M8 Competition Coupe and Porsche 911 Turbo. The Maserati cars achieve 21 mpg in combined city/highway driving, while their German rivals both return 17 mpg combined.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
The GranTurismo Folgore is capable of traveling 233 miles between charges. A few luxury electric vehicles can exceed 300 miles, but they’re sedans. Maserati says the battery can go from 20% capacity to 80% in 18 minutes using a DC fast charger. If the starting-off point had been 10%, that would have put the Folgore level with most other top-notch EVs. Looking at it another way, the company says the car can take on 48 miles of range in five minutes.

Tasteful Exterior

The GranTurismo definitely follows the classic coupe styling formula. We’re not criticizing, though. If we walked into our garage every morning and saw this ready to roll, we’d compliment ourselves on our good taste in cars.
The only real visual difference between the gasoline and electric models is the Folgore badge on each front fender, just above that hallmark trio of air vents.

Head-up display 
Admittedly, plenty of cars offer the option of a head-up display. Yet that doesn’t stop us from liking them and finding them extremely useful because we don’t have to look away from the road ahead. This feature is part of a Tech Assistance package that also includes a digital rearview mirror &#8212; a good thing to have in a coupe.
Sonus Faber audio 
A 19-speaker system from Italian maker Sonus Faber is an option in every GranTurismo variant.
Comfort package 
This optional bundle brings ventilated front seats and hands-free tailgate operation. Maserati isn’t exactly bending over backwards to provide value for money, but we’d probably choose this if we were buying a new GranTurismo.
Maserati aura 
Most people think of Ferrari and Lamborghini when conversation turns to exotic Italian cars. They’re wonderful, of course, but we also like the left-field/less-obvious aspect of Maserati. That trident badge in the grille has its own heritage, and we love the distinctly Italian styling overall.
Powertrain variety 
We always like to see variety under the hood, even in a super-premium coupe like the GranTurismo. We appreciate that this Maserati is available with either gasoline or electric power, and the two distinct tunings of the turbo V6 add even more choice.

Fine Interior

Maserati does this luxury sports car thing really well. The cabin steers a finely judged line between modernity and tradition. There are two screens in the center console, plus a digital driver information display, and the entire dash keeps clutter to a contemporary minimum. Yet there’s diamond-stitched leather upholstery as standard &#8212; as it should be for this price. We love the engine start button set into the steering wheel &#8212; it looks exciting, like a race car’s. Oh, and the all-electric Folgore comes with sustainable simulated leather.
In a typical coupe, the front seats are fine, and the back seats are usually awful. That’s not the case with the GranTurismo. Through ingenious packaging, there’s enough space for four adults &#8212; plus some of their luggage. The trunk area is 10.9 cubic feet, about the same as the Genesis G70 luxury compact sedan. Or 9.5 cubic feet in the Folgore &#8212; that battery has to go somewhere.

In its second year of existence, this current generation of the GranTurismo luxury coupe continues to offer two gasoline versions and an all-electric variant &#8212; the Folgore, which gets its name from the Italian word for lightning. For those buyers seeking automotive beauty, while steering clear of the more obvious mainstream choices, the GranTurismo is an intriguing choice. <a href="http://www.kbb.com/maserati/">Maserati</a> has created a powerful grand tourer that’s completely modern yet still evocative of gorgeous Italian car designs from the past.

We expect the 2025 Maserati GranTurismo to start at around $160,000. The all-electric 2025 Maserati GranTurismo Folgore has a starting sticker price of $193,995.

The GranTurismo faces some highly desirable and capable competition, like the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/m8/">BMW M8</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/porsche/911/">Porsche 911</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lexus/lc/">Lexus LC</a>, and the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-amg-gt/">Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe</a> &#8212; all beginning below this Maserati. If anyone feels like spending about twice as much as a GranTurismo Modena, there’s the Bentley Continental GT.
Electric luxury coupes aren’t so numerous. Most luxury EVs are sedans, yet we think someone considering a GranTurismo Folgore might also like to check out the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/rs-e-tron-gt/">Audi RS e-tron GT Performance</a>. Maybe a high-level version of the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/porsche/taycan/">Porsche Taycan</a>. Or perhaps a Rolls-Royce Spectre coupe might be tempting, with a range of 277 miles and a price around the half-million mark.

Gasoline-powered versions of the 2025 GranTurismo coupe employ a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. The Modena develops 483 horsepower and 361 lb-ft of torque, while the Trofeo is boosted to 542 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. In both instances, an 8-speed automatic transmission sends energy to an all-wheel drive system.
The GranTurismo Folgore has three electric motors making a massive 751 horsepower and 995 lb-ft of torque in total, with 818 hp available in boost mode. All-wheel drive is standard here as well.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Maserati’s new vehicle and powertrain warranties both last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This is typical among European luxury car makers. The Folgore’s battery pack is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
At the time of compiling this review, the GranTurismo had not been crash-tested by any agencies in the United States or Europe. That’s common with expensive vehicles that only sell in relatively small numbers. Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Sadly, blind-spot monitoring is part of an optional package of driver assistance features.

We’re not anticipating any significant changes to the GranTurismo this year.
