Positive Review
The earlier E-Series saved my life when I was rear-ended at high speed twice (Two cars each misjudged and slammed into the back of my stopped Mercedes). Middle driver in a Lexus SUV very badly injured. I had not even a bruise. This car at 100,000 miles is just as nice a ride as when I bought it used at 30,000 miles. I have driven it in snow, sleet, driving rains, etc. Handles all well. Very comfortable interior. This is not a sports car, it is a car to get you from A to B -- wherever you drive -- and do so safely and in luxury. I buy my Mercedes used and I am very loyal since my previous E class saved my life. I own many cars, since I have a large family and many American cars. The Mercedes are always in a class by themselves. My only complaint for the 2002 Mercedes is that it needed more coffee holders. Thank you Mercedes Benz.
Critical Review
I have owned seven (7) Mercedes of various models, including three (3) "E Class" cars. My current 2002 E320 is a perfect example of how these cars have declined and are continuing to decline in quality, reliability and value. Although much like many other vehicles of its age, a large percentage of the car is made with plastic, however, for the price point that a Mercedes represents, you would hope to find the use of a better quality material. As a result, most plastic items have broken. The shocking outcome was to find that the cost of the replacement parts were astronomical, even though it was merely plastic. The vehicle currently has approximately 65,000 miles, however, given the amount of items that are either broken or have already been replaced on the vehicle, you would think it had over 200,000 miles. The list of replacement items is as follows: Transmission Rebuilt due to slipping A/C Compressor A/C Receiver Dryer Motor Mounts Blower Motor Regulator All Catalytic Converters (4) Both Visor Mirror Doors Drivers Seat Frame Antenna for the Radio/Navigation System Cup Holder in Console Drive Train Flex Disc Brake Discs on All Four Wheels (Pads I would expect.) Glove Box Door Tail Light Bulb Mounts both sides And so on…. and so on…. To me Mercedes no longer stands for quality and dependability. What they are producing in my opinion are vehicles that represent “Less for More”. Never again will I buy one of these cars!!!!

Parts are expensive, labor is expensive
I have a 2001 E55 with 75k miles and I bought my son a 2001 e320 with 50k miles about a year ago ..both cars are extremely reliable despite their age, little things go like the vacuum hoses (locks) and window regular parts ..but nothing major my e55 has been one of the most reliable cars I have owned ever except for my 2010 911 which never breaks only needs gas and oil ..These older benzes are gems and cars ARE NOT made this way anymore ...the w124 actually is even better ....I have a neighbor in Florida that has 340k miles on his w124 and the interior still looks new and the car is completely rattle free and more solid then my new 4runner ..As long as an older benz 190E,190D, C-Class, E-Class, has been cared for and maintained they are as reliable as a honda or toyota. I would however not buy a newer Mercedes...the plastic parts especially in the engine compartment are their downfall ...

old school rear wheel drive car with metal protect
This German transmission in this car runs forever
This car can take a hit and protect you from being kill in accident. I was hit be large truck a 50plus and live to write this. The old saying they don't built them like that anymore works on this car! If you want your kid driving a used save car and come home alive then try and fine one of these old Mercedes-Benz E-class, good on gas and save! This is a old school car from Germany that was built by the old German car company! The new car being built plastic junk!
It's a Mercedes
They aren't cheap
This is my third Mercedes and they are (of course) not cheap nor or they typical. You get what you pay for. Quality equals time and time equals money. In the last 20 years, I have -as a car enthusiast- noticed that high mileage doesn't affect Mercedes like other cars. Previously I had an S500 with over 250k miles and the engine was as tight as when new. My current e320 has a V6 with over 170K miles and it too has no noticeable wear. No valve clicking, no piston slap. No oil use. Mercedes has much closer tolerances in their engines and it shows. They're more expensive, but they last much longer. With routine maintenance, they could literally last a lifetime. Who else can say that but Mercedes?
none
ok
This car cost to get it fix I cant afford to keep up on the maintenance on this vehicle. Seem like everytime i do work on it it is expensive so i just want a regular car to get around in
