Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with chrome front grille deflectors. The attachments that hold the front grille deflectors in place may fracture, resulting in grille detachment. A detached front grille deflector may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

The remedy is currently in development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 24, 2025. Owners may call GM customer service for GMC at 1-800-462-8782. GM’s number for this recall is N242490120.

Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500, 3500, and GMC Sierra HD 2500, 3500 vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. The tailgate’s electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in Park. An unlatched tailgate may open and result in a loss of unsecured cargo, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 13, 2025. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles. Incorrect software in the transmission control module (TCM) may result in harsh shifting, reduced power, unintended deceleration, rear wheel lockup, or cause the vehicle to move in an unintended direction. Rear wheel lock-up or moving in an unintended direction can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will update the transmission control module software calibration, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 23, 2024. Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with diesel engines. The transmission control valve may fail and cause the rear wheels to lock-up. Rear wheel lock-up can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will install new transmission control module software, free of charge. GM will provide a special coverage program to cover the repair of transmissions that are identified by the remedy software as containing a defective control valve. Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 GMC Canyon vehicles. The headlights may flicker while driving and while the vehicle is in park. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.” Headlights flickering can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV vehicles. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, “Light Vehicle Brake Systems.” Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles. The front camera module (FCM) system may falsely detect an obstacle, causing the automatic emergency braking (AEB) to engage unexpectedly. Unexpected automatic emergency braking can cause the vehicle to abruptly stop or slow down, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. The four rear-seat lower child seat LATCH anchorage bars may have excessive powder coating, which could prevent a child seat from being installed with the anchorage bars. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, “Child Restraint Anchorage Systems.” The inability to install a child seat with the LATCH anchorage bars could result in an unsecured child seat, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy

Owners are advised to install child seats using the vehicle’s rear seat belts until the remedy is complete. Dealers will inspect the latch anchorage bars, and remove and replace the finish, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 26, 2023. Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles. The driver’s air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to a manufacturing defect. An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the driver’s air bag module, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 26, 2023. Some GMC trucks and SUVs are included in a large 2016 recall for an issue that can prevent airbags from deploying, while some Sierra heavy-duty pickups are part of the massive Takata airbag inflator recall.

In 2016, General Motors Co. recalled 3.64 million vehicles for faulty airbag software. The defect was tied to at least one death and three injuries. Some vehicles in that recall were GMCs including 2015-17 Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD pickups, Yukon SUVs and Yukon XL SUVs and 2014-17 Sierra 1500 pickups. The fix for most vehicles is a software reflash. GM said the recall completion rate as of June 2018 for all vehicles in that recall is 89.9 percent.

Some GMC vehicles also have been called back this year. In May 2018, GM recalled more than 88,000 2018 Terrain compact SUVs because airbag software may be inoperative and airbags may not detect a crash and deploy. Dealers have the software fix but completion rates for that recall were not yet available.

The midsize Acadia SUV (2008-13 model years) also is part of a 2014 recall of 1.1 million vehicles for problems with side airbag wiring harnesses that could lead airbags and seat belt pretensioners from deploying in a crash. The fix is parts replacement and GM said the total recall completion rate is 94.6 percent as of June 2018.

“No matter the recall completion rate, individual vehicles may still have open recalls requiring repairs,” GM said in a statement. “Shoppers should check the Vehicle Information (Identification) Numbers (VIN) for the specific vehicles they are considering on the NHTSA Recall website to determine if they require recall repairs and have any recall repairs done immediately. Dealers will repair recall at no cost to the owner.”

Some Sierra HD pickups are among the estimated 37 million vehicles that have been recalled as part of the Takata airbag inflator recall. In 2015, GM recalled more than 330,000 2007-08 Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD pickups and other vehicles for defective passenger side airbags. Recalled Takata airbag inflators can explode and send shrapnel into the passenger compartment, injuring and killing people. The Takata recall, already the largest auto recall in U.S. history, is expected to grow by several million more inflators by December 2019. The defect has been tied to more than 20 deaths worldwide, including many in the U.S. GM said its recall completion rate for Takata airbags across all makes and models is 58.9 percent as of June 2018. Recalls for the inflators have been phased based on priority areas including high humidity states.

In 2016, GM also preliminarily recalled 1.8 million full-size trucks and SUVs including 2009-11 Sierra 2500 HD and Sierra 3500 HD trucks and 2007-11 Sierra 1500 pickups, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL models with passenger-side Takata airbag inflators.

The automaker believes the trucks and SUVs in the preliminary recall are safe and it is trying to prove through petitions to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that those vehicles don’t need to be recalled and inflators don’t need to be replaced.
