Positive Review

"I bought this car brand new in 2009 & still own it"

I bought this car in 2009 with only 18 miles on it. About 7 years and 107,700 miles later, it still drives like new. I have only replaced my run flat tires 3 times, as they seem to last longer than expected, got new brakes about a year ago, I replaced the battery about 2 years ago, just replaced all the spark plugs and engine coils (tune up) about 6 months ago and aside from synthetic oil changes every 8-10k miles, that's it for maintenance or repairs. This car is fast for a base model sedan, handles well and has been the most dependable car I've ever owned, never breaking down, not even once. The interior has also held up well, with the spring in one of the cup holders being the only thing that has broken. In fact, when it's clean, my car still looks brand new (not a single dent) and no one can believe it's a 2009! I can see myself easily driving this car for several more years now that it's paid off. For me, it was totally worth the money.

Critical Review

"unreliable"

I had 3 series since 2000. The first one, a 1987 model was very good, a daily driver. The second was a 2002 model, very good that my son now drives, at 151kmiles. Then I bought my wife a 2011 328 which now has 55kmiles and I drive a 09 335i. Both Late models consistently eat a quarter of oil every 3000 miles. They also like chewing on spark plugs and ignition coils. The 2011 had plugs replaced at 50kmiles, completely worn, along with a 5th cylinder ignition coil. Water pumps go between 45k miles and 70 k miles, expect to spend around $1,200, and don't delay replacing these, they are plastic made and will fail. If you drive on a failed pump your engine will fry. Window regulators are made of cheap plastic, expect to replace them after 50 k miles. A/C compressor used to fail at 120 k miles, the E90 models start growling at 60 k miles. Also, the heat in Texas makes the interior panels peel off. In summary, it seems like BMW currently makes 60k mile cars. I doubt I will have another one. I will miss the sharp driving but it is just not worth the hassle.

My 2008 335i with 84,000 miles

BMW my first one! Purchased this 335i 3 days ago and I am glad I did. A sports coupe 2 doors and horsepower to boost with twin turbos punching 300 snap cap beers. Six foot tall and there is plenty of room to push the gas peddle to the floor. Weighing in at 3100 pounds with 300 horses and loads of torque the HP to weight ratio is tremendous. My 335i is a little rough on the edges but mechanical sound. Hey I'm 75 years young and still love speed and this BMW gets the job done. Go get your energy boost with this CAR.

Outstanding performance and gas mileage
Pros

Very quick and good looking car

Cons

Regular maintenance

This car is a great stick shift vehicle that offers many premium options like leather heated seats for the winter season, adaptive cruise control for highways, and last but not least a great car on gas mileage with $60 you can get a full tank of over 270 miles and last for a a few days depending on the use.

Amazing Buy
Pros

Cheap, Quick, Comfortable

Cons

Expensive parts and service

170k miles and she still runs like new. Decent power out of the Inline 6, quicker than most cars around the price point. The car is also insanely comfortable, plenty of room in the back and front and the seats feel great. I would recommend this car although parts and work is pricey.

335d REAL M Sport

335d REAL m sport
Pros

strong engine , good handling

Cons

very low to the ground , becareful over speed bums

If you are looking for a fast reliable 3 series , the 2011 335d M Sport is a great choice. I have owned 5 of these cars and I have over 30 years as a mechanic (now retired) . The M sport is NOT the sport package . The misinformation on the M sport is everywhere on line. The M sport has several upgrades to the 335d and the 335d sport packages. And YES the m sport has upgraded suspension beyond the sport package, despite what you read on line. I have installed several Bilstein shock kits on both the 335d and the 335d sort package and made the mistake of trying to install a set of Bilsteins on front shocks on a M sport from a 335d sport package and it is not the correct shock. The M sport takes a different shock. The M sport uses a different wheel from the other 335d's , and there is M badges on the door sill and steering wheel. the 335d,s all have the same HP and TRQ, but in Germany these cars often get the Alpina d3 upgrades, which is called the diesel M3 in Germany. There are a LOT of tune upgrades for this car and if you live in a non smog state , you can get rid of the Def and EGR cooler and a few other easy to delete items , put a tune in and see 325 to 350 HP and 500 TRQ in a very economic car which get mid 30's MPG. The transmission are bullet proof , change the fluid every 50k and it will go forever. A lot of these cars came with upgrades , like electronic rear window shades, upgraded seats ect. I currently own a 2011 M sport with a mild tune and it is a great car with a lot of TRQ.

Good little get around car.
Pros

Good looking comfortable smooth ride.

Cons

Expensive repair parts, specialized service

Decent power nothing to go crazy for. Maintenance really needs to be kept up to keep the car reliable and fun. If you do the work yourself you get some mechanical experience and you know the job was done to your specs. MPG is decent for 6 cyl. The awd really does help in degraded weather. With cost and work put into the car the good still outweighs the bad. Fun peppy car with good road feel. Can be a auto-x contender or just a mom's grocery getter. Great car.
