2015 Audi TT Review

Keith Buglewicz

By Keith Buglewicz

Updated December 23, 2019

Pros

If your driving enthusiasm can’t be contained to the summer months, then the 2015 Audi TT and its quattro all-wheel drive opens up your options to year-round fun. Throw in dynamic styling, and Audi’s magical touch with interior design, and the TT’s hard to beat.

Cons

The Audi TT doesn’t have the sharp driving feel of the Porsche Boxster/Cayman twins, and the BMW Z4 and Mercedes-Benz SLK offer a more refined experience thanks to the added quiet of their hard-top convertible designs.

What's New?

With an all-new Audi TT waiting in the wings, there are no major changes to the 2015 TT. Already well equipped, with standard all-wheel drive, this is no bad thing.

With an all-new version coming next year, the 2015 Audi TT Coupe and Roadster is the last chance to buy this generation of this sharp-looking 2-seater.

With impeccable build quality and excellent driving dynamics, and the TT offers year-round driving excitement in an aggressive and luxurious package that’s reasonably priced considering the luxury brand. Two 2.0-liter turbocharged engines are available: the TT with 211 horsepower, or the TTS and its 265 horsepower version. Either way, the TT is no slouch, and its quattro all-wheel-drive system helps grip the road in a way competitors like the BMW Z4, Mercedes-Benz SLK and Porsche Cayman can’t match. The Roadster’s soft top isn’t as convenient as a retractable hardtop, but it weighs less, and takes up less space.

2015 Audi TT Pricing

2015 Audi TT pricing starts at $19,626 for the TT Quattro Coupe 2D, which had a starting MSRP of $41,245 when new. The range-topping 2015 TT TTS Quattro Roadster 2D starts at $22,269 today, originally priced from $52,595.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2015 Audi TT models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.

Driving the Audi TT

The 2015 Audi TT is an ideal driving companion when it’s just you and a winding strip of coastal highway.

While the TT may lack the precise steering response of the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z4, we think that all but the most hard-core of drivers will happy to trade a bit of steering precision for the way the TT holds in corners and its stable, smooth ride. No traditional manual transmission is available, but Audi’s S tronic dual-clutch automatic left little to complain about. The TT Roadster is quiet with its top up, considering it’s not a hardtop like its competitors, but there’s no getting around the fact that it’d feel more secure and polished with a retractable hardtop. Regardless, the TT offers a great ride, great power and great fuel economy. It’s a shame you can’t comfortably fit two more people in it. Then again, maybe not.

Interior Comfort

Whether you choose the 4-passenger Coupe or 2-seat Roadster, the 2015 Audi TT offers a beautifully built and elegantly designed cabin. The flat-bottomed steering wheel and driver-friendly dashboard project a sporty feel. The TT Coupe’s rear seat is best suited for very small children or professional contortionists – better to leave it folded flat for extra luggage room, adding an extra layer of practicality. Most of the TT’s controls are straightforward and intuitive, though the optional navigation system’s dash-mounted control dial is ergonomically off target.

Exterior Styling

All through its history, the Audi TT’s innovative design has been the car’s signature feature. Though some might compare its shape to an overturned bathtub, there’s no denying it makes a striking visual statement. To help maintain the Roadster’s sleek appearance, the multi-layer soft top folds flat into the rear shelf. Generous use of aluminum helps reduce overall weight and increase structural rigidity. The automatically retracting rear spoiler is designed to help with stability at high speeds, but without spoiling the car’s lines when it’s sitting still.

Favorite Features

S TRONIC DUAL-CLUTCH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds? This transmission acts just like any smooth-shifting automatic in congested city traffic. But on the track, it’s a swift-shifting, pedal-free manual gearbox.

POWER RETRACTABLE SOFT TOP
We get that retractable hardtop systems for convertibles are quieter and more secure. But they’re also complicated and heavy, and the Audi TT Roadster’s triple-layer soft top does a good job suppressing outside wind and road noise.

Standard Features

Setting it apart from most of its competition is the 2015 Audi TT’s standard quattro all-wheel-drive system. Last year, Premium Plus and Prestige trims were dropped in favor of a single, well appointed TT. Standard equipment includes a sporty flat-bottomed steering wheel with integrated paddle shifters, 10-way power front seats with pseudo-suede inserts and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. A USB port with iPod connectivity requires the optional MMI Navigation system, a sign of this car’s overall age in the marketplace. Passenger protection includes six airbags and Audi’s backguard seats, which are designed to reduce the severity of whiplash-related injuries.

Factory Options

Options include Audi’s navigation system plus, which comes with rear backup sensors and Audi Music Interface (AMI). If you dread the characteristically harsh ride of traditional sport-tuned suspension setups, we suggest you opt for the TT’s available magnetic ride system, which automatically adjusts suspension damping based on road conditions and driving style. A Black Optic package is available on the TTS and includes gloss black grille surround, carbon fiber exterior mirror housings and 15-spoke, 19-inch wheels in Titanium finish.

Engine & Transmission

2015 Audi TT models offer a choice of two turbocharged engines, both powerful, responsive and efficient.

The TT uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder making 211 horsepower and the TTS has the same basic engine tuned for 265 horsepower. The only transmission is a 6-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic. All TT’s have Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive as standard equipment.
