Positive Review

"Best car I ever owned."

The A5 is the best car I've ever owned. It's the perfect blend of luxury, awesome looks and performance. I've added 19" wheels with high performance rubber, lowered 1 1/2" and added sway bars front and rear and a cold air intake. It corners like it's on rails. The technology with the MMI and B&O sound system is top notch. the car has been very reliable with no major issues. The 3.2L V6 is a great engine with enough power, revs freely and sounds great with the cold air intake. I have Blizzak tires on the stock 18" wheels for winter and it goes and stops like a champ.

Critical Review

"Don't buy the 2.0T engine!"

Bought this car with 52,000 miles on it. In 11,000 miles of driving, oil usage went from 1qt./1800 miles to 1 qt./650 miles!! Audi stonewalled us until the usage hit 650 miles. Replaced pistons and rings under warranty. Discovered that the water pump was leaking during rebuild. Based on sludge buildup, had been leaking since we purchased, and this was a fully certified Audi! Cost us $85 deductible. Five days after getting the car back from rebuild, it sat out overnight in an all night rain. The next morning, the driver's seat was soaked, door pocket full of water, floor soaked. While driving, a pencil sized stream of water was running onto my left leg. Back in the shop, top adjusted and re-insulated. Three days after top adjustment, started losing coolant. Took car in, new water pump gasket had a low spot, had to be replaced. In less than six months of ownership, this car was in the shop 15% of the time we owned it. Our only salvation was that the 3rd Audi dealer we went to fixed everything, and treated us like their own customer. If they were located where we lived, might buy another Audi. Otherwise, wouldn't touch one again.

Fun car to drive
Pros

Absolutely fun to drive and well put together.

Cons

Maintenance costs are higher than my Toyota.

Had this 2015 Audi A5 Cab for 2.5years, actually my wife's car, and it has been a lot of fun driving it near and in the mountains of East Tennessee. We put about 18K miles on it. The styling is exceptional with the top down, the brown color is striking, and driving on the winding roads is exhilarating. The front seats give more than enough room. The driving position is very good. The back seats are useless for humans but they are there for extra storage. Strange that there are reading lights and cupholders for the prospective backseat passengers. The seat backs fold down for extra trunk storage. The technology takes some getting used to, but spending a few hours with the owner's manual and you'll get the knack of it. Very reliable, with one exception due to an intermittent left rear window, but, heh, it is going on 8 years old. Fun to drive on the interstate and through the mountains but the ride is a bit stiffer and slightly bouncy as the wheelbase is shorter. The Continental Tires on the car, though, wear out after 25-30K miles, a disappointment. On long trips, I average close to 36 mpg, but with premium (93 Octane) gas. Very high quality interior appointments.

One of the best cars I ever owned (owned 29 cars)
Pros

Clean award winning design, comfortable interior,

Cons

None

Having been in the automotive/product design field…product of:Art Center College of Design (major transportation). My opinion: Audi’s design team did a great job on the Audi 2012 (form follows function). The only other automobile that I give high marks to: 1995/911 Porsche!

Love the bodystyle on this generation A5
Pros

Great dring experience. Car is very peppy

Cons

Cost of ownership

Fast and comfortable. Easy to customize. Beautiful coupe. Cost of ownership is high however and finding a solid Audi mechanic that you can count on and trust can be a challenge.

Won't get fooled again
Pros

Seemed to drive nice when it ran.

Cons

A Gold Toilet is more economical

Long story medium long. I have owned the car for 1 and 1/2 years. I have drove it for 3000 miles the rest of the time it has been in the shop. It has a new clutch $2500. The timing went bad and the head got replaced with some wiring. $7500. Including my original purchase price this car has costed $5.80 a mile to drive. That's right folks I have a $17,400 Audi A5 that doesn't even have a garage door opener option. Bonus feature that as of this writing KBB says its worth a whopping $4300 to trade in.

First Audi
5/11/2021

It’s ok
Pros

Heated seats

Cons

The keyfob, it creaks, parts are hard to find

I got a 2011 Audi A5 Quattro premium convertible for only a few thousand bucks. My first car I paid in cash for. It took a while to adjust to the dorky keyfob thing where you push it into the dash and push again to turn the car on and you have to push the keyfob to unlock the car. I’m used to cars unlocking with my touching the door handle. And with the key fob you have to struggle to pull the key out. Since I just got the car I’m not sure if it has cruise control, I haven’t figured that out yet. It’s a 10 year old car so it has scratches, small dents, a chip in the windshield, may need new wipers, the front bumper has quick latches on it to keep it on and the headlights and fog lights are yellow and hazy and it’s missing a wheel center peice and some chrome parts have been worn on the inside. Cannot easily find parts to fix it. The A4 has cheap replacement parts but this has hard to find expensive parts! Right now it has some oil spots in the driveway so I’ll need to take it to a shop since I just got the car. The car also creaks and makes noises like something is loose on the body. Maybe it’s just old car noises? But hopefully it doesn’t have too expensive of problems. But it’s an old car and paid cash. The engine seems ok, it feels very zippy and the heated seats are amazing. I like that the turn signals are on the side mirrors. It’s lacking a rear view camera that I loved on my previous car. I only have this because it’s cheaper. It looks like a nice car overall though it does scream at you super loud if you open your door with the key in the ignition!

Too good to let go
Pros

One of my favorites

Cons

Letting her go someday....

I purchased my white manual A5 AWD premium used with 20k in 2012. It would normally be past time to replace, but with only 70k on the odometer and still a pleasure to drive, we're keeping her for now. Been reliable other than a few recalls early on. When I replaced the Bilstein struts I upped them to the S level (B6), and she rides even better now. Had my share of sports cars over the years, this is one of the greats. Still get compliments on the styling. Never understood why Audi didn't expand the concept to the rest of the line. Notwithstanding the EPA, I average mid 30s mpg.
